Enzo Maresca Confirms Chelsea's Midfield Depth and Clarifies Transfer Activity Ahead of Manchester City Clash

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has addressed recent speculation regarding potential recalls of midfielders Andrey Santos and Lesley Ugochukwu from their loan spells. He emphasized that the club does not intend to pursue additional midfielders at this time, stating, "We’ve got enough players in midfield to cover, Moises, Enzo, and Kiernan." 

This statement comes amid concerns over the fitness of midfielders Enzo Fernandez and Romeo Lavia. Lavia has been sidelined due to a muscular injury, and Fernandez has been dealing with fitness issues. Despite these challenges, Maresca remains confident in the current squad's depth and capabilities. 

Regarding transfer rumors, Maresca clarified that Chelsea has not initiated any contact for Reda Belahyane, with the only inquiry being for Douglas Luiz. This clarification aims to dispel any misconceptions about the club's transfer activities.

Looking ahead, Chelsea is set to face Manchester City in a Premier League match on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at the Etihad Stadium. The game is scheduled to kick off at 5:30 PM GMT. This fixture is crucial for both teams, as Chelsea currently holds fourth place, two points ahead of fifth-placed Manchester City. The Blues will aim to maintain their position in the top four, while City seeks to rebound from a recent 4-2 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League. 

In preparation for the match, Chelsea will be without midfielder Romeo Lavia due to injury. However, Enzo Fernandez and Levi Colwill are expected to be available for selection.
