Jocelyn Wildenstein, the Swiss-American socialite famously dubbed "The Catwoman" due to her extreme cosmetic procedures, has passed away at the age of 84. She died on Tuesday, December 31, in Paris from a pulmonary embolism, according to her partner, Lloyd Klein.
Wildenstein, born on August 5, 1940, in Lausanne, Switzerland, became a prominent figure in New York society. Her dramatic facial alterations, which she attributed to her heritage, were widely discussed in the media, leading to her "Catwoman" moniker. Despite the attention surrounding her appearance, Wildenstein's personal life also gained considerable focus, especially following her highly publicized divorce from billionaire art dealer Alec Wildenstein in 1999. The divorce settlement, one of the largest in history, was reportedly valued at $2.5 billion.
In the years that followed, Wildenstein faced significant financial challenges, including a Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing in 2018. Nevertheless, she remained in the public eye, largely due to her relationship with fashion designer Lloyd Klein, whom she met in 2003. The couple became engaged in 2017, with Klein proposing with a 32-carat diamond ring.
Wildenstein is survived by her children, Diane and Alec Jr. Her death marks the end of a controversial yet impactful life, leaving an indelible mark on both the fashion and social scenes.
