Colombian striker Jhon Durán, who recently transferred from Aston Villa to Saudi Pro League club Al-Nassr, has opted to reside in Bahrain with his girlfriend due to Saudi Arabia's legal restrictions on cohabitation for unmarried couples.

This decision necessitates a daily commute of approximately 600 miles (965 kilometers) to attend training sessions in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Durán will undertake an 80-minute flight each way to fulfill his professional commitments.

This arrangement mirrors choices made by other football figures, such as Steven Gerrard and Jordan Henderson, who also chose to live in Bahrain while playing for Saudi clubs, citing similar personal considerations.

Durán's move to Al-Nassr was finalized for a transfer fee of £64.5 million plus add-ons. At 21 years old, he has signed a five-year contract with the club, significantly increasing his annual tax-free salary to £16.7 million.

Despite the substantial financial benefits, Durán emphasized that his decision to join Al-Nassr was not solely driven by monetary factors. He expressed enthusiasm about contributing to the Saudi Pro League and the opportunity to play alongside renowned footballer Cristiano Ronaldo, whom he regards as "the best athlete in the world."

Durán made his debut for Al-Nassr on February 3, 2025, in a 4–0 victory against UAE Pro League club Al-Wasl during the AFC Champions League Elite.
