In his post-match press conference, Mourinho referred to the Galatasaray bench as "jumping like monkeys" in reaction to an early challenge. He also suggested that the match benefited from being officiated by Slovenian referee Slavko Vincic, implying a preference over Turkish officials. These statements prompted Galatasaray to announce their intention to initiate criminal proceedings against Mourinho, accusing him of making "derogatory statements directed towards the Turkish people."
The TFF's disciplinary board found Mourinho's actions and statements to be in violation of sportsmanship principles, stating that they "contained expressions that could encourage violence and disorder in sports, were divisive and separatist in society, and could cause fan incidents." As a result, Mourinho received a two-match ban for his derogatory remarks towards the fourth official and an additional two-match ban for his post-match comments, totaling a four-match suspension. He was also fined 1.617 million Turkish lira (approximately £35,000).
In response to the allegations, Fenerbahce issued a statement asserting that Mourinho's comments were "taken completely out of context and deliberately distorted," denying any racist intent. Former Chelsea striker Didier Drogba also defended Mourinho, describing him as a father figure and rejecting the racism accusations.
The suspension means Mourinho will miss Fenerbahce's upcoming league matches against Antalyaspor, Samsunspor, Bodrum, and Trabzonspor. Despite the controversy, Fenerbahce remains six points behind league leaders Galatasaray in the Super Lig standings, with 12 matches left in the season.
