Lionel Messi Scores as Inter Miami Triumphs 3-1 Over Sporting Kansas City in Concacaf Champions Cup

Lionel Messi's early goal propelled Inter Miami to a decisive 3-1 victory over Sporting Kansas City on Tuesday night, February 25, 2025, at Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. This win secured Inter Miami's advancement to the Round of 16 in the Concacaf Champions Cup, with an aggregate score of 4-1.

In the 19th minute, Messi opened the scoring with a powerful left-footed volley from the edge of the box, following a precise assist from Luis Suárez. This goal marked the 100th time Messi and Suárez have combined for a goal in all competitions, underscoring their formidable partnership. 

The first half concluded with two additional goals for Inter Miami. Tadeo Allende doubled the lead in the 45th minute, and Suárez extended it further in the 45th+3 minute, bringing the aggregate score to 4-0. 

Sporting Kansas City managed to pull one back in the 63rd minute with a long-range strike from Memo Rodríguez, but it was insufficient to alter the outcome.

With this victory, Inter Miami advances to the Round of 16, where they are set to face Cavalier FC, the reigning Concacaf Caribbean Cup champions. The first leg of this matchup is scheduled for March 6 at Chase Stadium, with the return leg on March 13 in Kingston, Jamaica.
