Liverpool were forced to settle for a 2-2 draw against Everton in the final Merseyside derby at Goodison Park on February 13, 2025. Despite taking the lead late in the second half, Arne Slot’s side conceded a dramatic equalizer in stoppage time, resulting in a tense and controversial ending.
Everton opened the scoring in the 11th minute through Beto, but Liverpool responded quickly, with Alexis Mac Allister finding the net in the 16th minute. The game remained level until Mohamed Salah put Liverpool ahead in the 73rd minute, seemingly setting them on course for victory.

However, the match took a dramatic turn in stoppage time when James Tarkowski scored for Everton in the 98th minute, ensuring the points were shared. The intensity of the clash boiled over in the closing moments, leading to a heated confrontation that saw red cards issued to Everton’s Abdoulaye Doucouré, Liverpool’s Curtis Jones, manager Arne Slot, and assistant coach Sipke Hulshoff.
After the match, Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk criticized referee Michael Oliver, stating that he had "lost control" of the game. Despite the draw, Liverpool extended their lead at the top of the Premier League to seven points over second-placed Arsenal, while Everton moved ten points clear of the relegation zone.
