Liverpool manager Arne Slot has been issued a two-match touchline ban following his dismissal during the recent 2-2 draw against Everton. The Premier League initially announced that Slot was penalized for using "offensive, insulting, or abusive language" towards match officials. However, this statement was subsequently retracted, leading to uncertainty regarding the exact nature of the suspension.
Typically, a manager's red card results in a one-match ban. In this instance, the severity of Slot's language has led to an extended suspension. Consequently, he is expected to miss Liverpool's upcoming fixtures against Wolverhampton Wanderers and Aston Villa. This absence will prevent Slot from performing his usual touchline duties, including direct communication with players during matches.
The incident occurred after Everton's James Tarkowski netted a late equalizer, sparking confrontations between players and staff from both teams. Slot approached referee Michael Oliver, resulting in his immediate dismissal. Assistant coach Sipke Hulshoff was also red-carded during the altercation. Due to Premier League regulations, both Slot and Hulshoff were prohibited from conducting post-match media duties.
As a result of these developments, first-team coach John Heitinga is anticipated to assume managerial responsibilities on the touchline during Slot's suspension. The club awaits further clarification from the Football Association regarding any additional sanctions or potential appeals.
