Pep Guardiola Explains Kevin De Bruyne's Absence Against Real Madrid, Dismisses Injury Concerns and Emphasizes Tactical Decision

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has clarified that Kevin De Bruyne's omission from the starting lineup in the recent match against Real Madrid was a tactical decision, not due to injury. Guardiola stated, "Kevin De Bruyne didn't start against Real Madrid as I made a technical decision. He was not injured." He further emphasized De Bruyne's continued importance to the team, noting, "Of course he can still play in big games... he played against Madrid at home, of course he can play."

This decision comes amid broader considerations regarding player fitness and squad rotation. Guardiola has expressed concerns about the physical demands on his players, acknowledging that some may struggle to maintain the required intensity. He remarked, "Some players are no longer able to play every three days."

Despite recent challenges, including a significant defeat to Real Madrid, Guardiola remains committed to leading Manchester City through a period of transition. He has recognized the need for rebuilding, stating, "It seems that this cycle is coming to an end."
