Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has advised Kevin De Bruyne to carefully assess his options as he nears a crucial career decision. The Belgian midfielder, who has been a key figure at the club for nearly a decade, faces an uncertain future with his contract set to expire in the summer.
Guardiola’s Advice to De Bruyne
Guardiola emphasized that De Bruyne must take personal responsibility for his next move, comparing his situation to former City playmaker David Silva. He stated:
"I think in that situation he has to decide; that is the most important thing. He's completely honest with himself, to decide what he feels and what he can do in the next period of his life. He's 34 in the summer and he has to decide, like what happened with David Silva, for example."
De Bruyne’s Current Season and Future Speculation
This campaign has been challenging for the 32-year-old, with injuries restricting his game time. So far, he has completed the full 90 minutes in only seven matches and has started 12 out of 25 league fixtures, contributing two goals and six assists. Discussions about his future include potential moves to Major League Soccer or remaining at Manchester City in a different capacity.
Guardiola’s Long-Term Squad Plans
Looking ahead, Guardiola acknowledged that the club needs to maintain a strong squad, especially with the increasing fixture demands. He explained:
"The club has to sign players but at the same time the club has to keep the players we have as much as possible. Because with the (Club) World Cup and then immediately (next) season, it will be even tougher next season. We need a little bit bigger squad next year."
As the season unfolds, De Bruyne’s decision will play a key role in shaping both his future and Manchester City’s plans moving forward.
