Senator Ned Munir Nwoko, representing Delta North, officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Wednesday, February 5, during a Senate plenary session. His decision was confirmed through a letter read by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

Nwoko, who was elected to the Senate in 2023 under the PDP platform, cited challenges within his former party as the primary reason for his departure. According to his media aide, Gloria Okolugbo, "Senator Nwoko came prepared to serve and deliver the dividends of good governance to the Anioma people. However, he has not enjoyed the cooperation and support of his party."
His defection further solidifies the APC’s influence in Delta State, as all three senators representing the state are now members of the ruling party. This shift raises concerns about the PDP's standing in the region amid growing political realignments.
Reacting to Nwoko’s move, former Senator Peter Nwaoboshi, who previously represented Delta North, advised the APC leadership to be cautious about any preconditions set by Nwoko before joining the party. He stressed the need to uphold the party’s constitution and democratic principles to prevent internal instability.
