Veteran Spanish defender Sergio Ramos has officially joined Mexican club Rayados de Monterrey on a one-year contract, marking his first professional venture outside Europe. The 38-year-old, who departed Sevilla seven months ago, brings a wealth of experience and a decorated career to the Liga MX side.
Ramos began his professional journey with Sevilla during the 2003-04 LaLiga season before transferring to Real Madrid in 2005. Over 16 seasons with Los Blancos, he secured 22 titles, including five LaLiga championships and four UEFA Champions League trophies. Following his tenure at Real Madrid, Ramos spent two seasons with Paris Saint-Germain, contributing to two Ligue 1 titles, before returning to Sevilla.

Internationally, Ramos is Spain's most capped player, boasting 180 appearances. He was instrumental in Spain's victories at the 2010 FIFA World Cup and the UEFA European Championships in 2008 and 2012. He retired from international football in 2023.

At Monterrey, Ramos will don the number 93 jersey, a tribute to the minute he scored a pivotal goal in the 2014 Champions League final for Real Madrid against Atlético Madrid, which forced the match into extra time and ultimately led to victory.

During his stint with Monterrey, Ramos is set to participate in the domestic league, the CONCACAF Champions Cup, and the FIFA Club World Cup. His arrival is anticipated to bolster the team's defense and provide mentorship to younger players, as Monterrey aims for success in these competitions.

Ramos joins fellow Spaniards Sergio Canales and Óliver Torres at Monterrey, further strengthening the squad's European experience. His signing is seen as a significant boost for both the club and the Liga MX, reminiscent of the era when prominent Spanish players graced Mexican football in the 1980s and 1990s.

This move signifies a new chapter in Ramos' illustrious career, as he brings his extensive experience and leadership to the Mexican football scene.
