Takehiro Tomiyasu Undergoes Knee Surgery, Begins Rehabilitation Amid Arsenal Injury Woes

Arsenal defender Takehiro Tomiyasu has recently undergone knee surgery to address an injury that has sidelined him for the majority of the current season. The 26-year-old Japanese international has faced multiple injuries since joining Arsenal from Bologna in 2021, limiting his appearances to just 84 matches across all competitions.
Tomiyasu sustained his latest knee injury during Arsenal's pre-season tour in the United States, causing him to miss the first six Premier League matches of the 2024/25 season. He made a brief return on October 5, playing the final six minutes in a 3-1 victory over Southampton at the Emirates Stadium. Unfortunately, a subsequent setback has kept him off the pitch since that appearance.

In a recent Instagram post, Tomiyasu shared an image of himself on crutches post-surgery and expressed his determination to return to action:

> "I've had surgery on my knee a few days ago. I've already started my rehab to do what I love the most again. It has been the toughest period in my career for sure, and it carries on a bit more, but I won't give up. Thank you for your support and see you again."

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has acknowledged the uncertainty surrounding Tomiyasu's return, stating in November: "Tomiyasu is still hurt, and we don't know when he'll be back. He's going to be gone for a few more weeks, and he's feeling terrible that he can't help the team."

Tomiyasu's absence adds to Arsenal's injury challenges, with key players such as Bukayo Saka, Kai Havertz, Gabriel Jesus, and Reiss Nelson also sidelined due to various injuries.
