FC Barcelona's goalkeeper, Marc-André ter Stegen, has announced his separation from his wife, Daniela Jehle, after nearly eight years of marriage. The couple, who began their relationship in 2012, married in 2017 and have two children together.
Ter Stegen shared the news on his social media platform X, stating:
"Hello all,
After careful consideration, Dani and I have decided to go our separate ways. This decision was not an easy one, as you can imagine, but we both believe it is the best step for us.
Our joint focus is on doing what is best for our children, ensuring they continue to have a loving and stable environment. We remain committed to working together as parents and treating each other with respect and appreciation as we always have.
During this personal time, we kindly ask for your understanding and for respecting our privacy—especially that of our children. Thank you.
With appreciation, Marc"
This announcement comes as Ter Stegen is recovering from a knee injury sustained on September 22, 2024, during a match against Villarreal.
The injury, identified as a patellar tendon rupture in his right knee, has sidelined him for several months.
In his absence, veteran goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny has been brought out of retirement to serve as Barcelona's primary goalkeeper. Szczesny's impressive performances have contributed to the team's continued success, including a recent 1-0 victory over Benfica in the Champions League.
