Alphonso Davies, 24, has been diagnosed with a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee, following his early exit from Canada's 2-1 win over the United States in the CONCACAF Nations League third-place match. The injury occurred in the 12th minute, and Davies is set to undergo surgery today. His recovery is expected to keep him out of action for about six months, effectively ruling him out for the remainder of the season.
Meanwhile, Dayot Upamecano is also facing injury issues after returning from international duty with France. He has been diagnosed with loose bodies in his left knee and will be unavailable for several weeks as he undergoes treatment and rehabilitation.
Bayern's sporting director, Max Eberl, expressed disappointment over the injuries, acknowledging the inherent risks that come with players returning from international breaks. He noted, however, that the team has sufficient depth to cope with the absence of these key players.
In response to the injuries, Bayern Munich will have to adjust their lineup. Potential replacements for Davies at left-back include Hiroki Ito, Raphaël Guerreiro, and Josip Stanišić, while Eric Dier and Kim Min-jae are likely candidates to fill in for Upamecano in central defense.
These injuries come at a crucial time in the season, as Bayern Munich is leading the Bundesliga by a six-point margin over Bayer Leverkusen. The team is also preparing for upcoming matches against St. Pauli and Inter Milan.
