The architectural design, led by Foster + Partners, features an innovative umbrella structure capable of harvesting solar energy and rainwater. The stadium will also include three prominent masts, making it visible from up to 40 kilometers away.
This ambitious £2 billion project is a cornerstone of a broader regeneration initiative for the Old Trafford area, aiming to deliver significant economic benefits. Projections indicate the creation of approximately 92,000 jobs and the development of over 17,000 new homes, potentially contributing an additional £7.3 billion to the UK economy annually.
Construction is expected to span five years, with the club continuing to play at Old Trafford during this period. The strategic location near the Manchester Ship Canal will facilitate modular construction techniques, expediting the building process.
Co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe emphasized the project's significance, stating, "The north of England deserves a stadium where England can play football, where we can hold the Champions League final, and one befitting of Manchester United's stature."
