Marseille President Explains Decision to Pass Signing of Paul Pogba

Olympique de Marseille president Pablo Longoria has provided insight into the club’s decision to forgo signing Paul Pogba as a free agent during the recent transfer window.
Despite Pogba's availability following a reduction in his doping suspension from four years to 18 months, Marseille ultimately chose not to pursue the 2018 World Cup winner. Speaking to *El Larguero*, Longoria revealed that while discussions were held regarding Pogba’s potential arrival, concerns over his rehabilitation period influenced their final decision.

“We engaged in conversations, but we ultimately determined that his recovery timeline could disrupt the squad’s balance,” Longoria explained.

The Marseille president highlighted the importance of maintaining team cohesion, emphasizing that introducing a high-profile player like Pogba—who would remain unavailable until March due to his suspension—could impact the squad’s stability.

Instead, the club opted to reinforce their squad with players who could contribute immediately. During the final hours of the transfer window, Marseille secured Algerian midfielder Ismaël Bennacer from AC Milan on loan, with an option to buy, and also acquired Bosnian defender Amar Dedić from Salzburg on a loan deal.
