Edu Gaspar has officially ended his time at Arsenal, marking the conclusion of his garden leave after stepping down from his role as sporting director. Taking to Instagram, the former midfielder shared a heartfelt farewell message, expressing appreciation to fans and reflecting fondly on his time at the club.

Edu, a member of the club’s iconic "Invincibles" squad, returned to Arsenal in 2019 as technical director and was later promoted to sporting director. During his tenure, he played a central role in shaping the club’s transfer strategy, helping bring in key players like Martin Ødegaard and Declan Rice. His contributions were instrumental in Arsenal’s 2020 FA Cup win and their return to Champions League football.

His exit paves the way for a new challenge as he joins Evangelos Marinakis’ football group, which oversees clubs including Nottingham Forest, Olympiacos, and Rio Ave. The move marks a significant step forward in Edu’s executive career.

Arsenal co-chairman Josh Kroenke acknowledged Edu’s influence during his time at the club, stating: “We’re incredibly thankful for Edu’s dedication and the important role he’s played in our recent progress. We wish him nothing but success in his next chapter.”

In response to Edu’s departure, Arsenal appointed Andrea Berta as their new sporting director on March 30, 2025. The highly respected Italian previously served as Atlético Madrid’s sporting director for over a decade, helping the Spanish side to multiple La Liga titles and European successes.
