Vardy joined Leicester in 2012 from fifth-tier Fleetwood Town for £1 million and became the club’s all-time leading scorer with 198 goals in 496 appearances. He played a pivotal role in Leicester’s historic 2016 Premier League title win, their 2021 FA Cup triumph, and the club’s run to the Champions League quarter-finals. Despite Leicester's relegation this season, he remains just two goals shy of 200.
At 38, Vardy has no plans to retire and has expressed his intention to continue playing professionally. He has reportedly attracted interest from clubs in Major League Soccer (MLS) and Saudi Arabia, though he hasn’t ruled out staying in the Premier League.
Leicester City confirmed that Vardy's final home match will take place on May 18 against Ipswich Town. Club Chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha praised him as a unique and special figure in Leicester’s history, stating, "Jamie is a true Leicester City legend and his contribution to the club's success is immeasurable."
Vardy expressed deep gratitude to the fans, coaches, teammates, and especially former chairman Khun Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha for believing in him. He admitted the club’s recent relegation was a “total embarrassment,” but emphasized his continued passion for the game and unwavering support for Leicester City.
