Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo has resumed first-team training ahead of the club’s UEFA Europa League quarter-final first leg against Lyon.
The 19-year-old had been sidelined since February due to a muscular injury sustained during a training session. However, he rejoined the squad’s preparations at Carrington on Wednesday, signalling a positive step in his recovery.
Manager Rúben Amorim expressed optimism regarding Mainoo’s progress, noting that although the club remains cautious, there is a possibility the young midfielder could be included in the squad for the upcoming clash.
Mainoo’s return comes as a timely boost for Manchester United amid a packed fixture schedule.
In addition to Mainoo’s return, defender Harry Maguire has been declared fit after being substituted as a precaution in the recent Manchester derby. However, Matthijs de Ligt remains absent from training and is unlikely to be involved against Lyon.
Manchester United will face Lyon in the Europa League quarter-final first leg on Thursday, April 10, 2025. The club will then travel to face Newcastle United in a Premier League fixture on Sunday, April 13, 2025.
