The Belgian midfielder, who is now 33 years old, is expected to leave the club at the end of the 2024–2025 season, bringing an end to a remarkable period marked by both individual excellence and team success.
De Bruyne joined Manchester City in 2015 from VfL Wolfsburg in a transfer worth around £50 million. Since his arrival, he has become a central figure in the club’s rise to dominance, amassing 413 appearances, 106 goals, and 174 assists. His influence has been vital to the club’s trophy haul, which includes six Premier League titles and a historic first Champions League crown.
Pep Guardiola has praised De Bruyne, describing him as “one of the greatest midfielders in Premier League history” and has backed the decision to commemorate him with a statue. The planned tribute will see De Bruyne honoured alongside other club legends.
