A photograph of Yusuf standing with arms outstretched in front of Obi’s convoy in Lagos went viral, symbolizing the hope and enthusiasm of many Nigerian youths.
In January of this year, the 17-year-old was accused of robbery and subsequently arraigned before a Magistrate Court in Apapa, Lagos. Following the proceedings, the police secured a court order for his detention at the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Kirikiri.
The image, captured by photographer Esther Umoh, quickly gained popularity on social media, earning Yusuf the affectionate nickname “Daddy Oyoyo,” a term used to welcome parents home in Nigeria. In a video interview, the 15-year-old expressed his admiration for Obi, stating, “He is from Ibadan... I love him very well. I will pray for him if he wins.”
Following the viral moment, Yusuf received widespread support from Nigerians, including financial assistance and offers to help him continue his education.
