Manchester United Players Forced to Leave Old Trafford at Half-Time Amidst Sensational Comeback Victory
Manchester United players Noussair Mazraoui and Victor Lindelof were both forced to leave Old Trafford at half-time during their dramatic Europa League quarter-final second-leg clash against Olympique Lyon.
Mazraoui was replaced by Luke Shaw at the break, while Lindelof did not return to the bench for the second half due to an undisclosed issue. Addressing the situation after the match, United manager Ruben Amorim explained:
> "We had a problem with Noussa at half time.
Vic has a personal problem, he had to leave."
Despite the disruption, Manchester United went on to produce one of the most thrilling comebacks in their European history. The Red Devils triumphed 5–4 on the night and 7–6 on aggregate to secure a place in the semi-finals.
Goals from Manuel Ugarte and Diogo Dalot gave United a 2–0 lead at half-time. However, Lyon struck back to level the score during regular time and even took the lead in extra time. Bruno Fernandes pulled United back into contention with a penalty in the 114th minute, followed by a dramatic equaliser from Kobbie Mainoo in the 120th. Just a minute later, Harry Maguire sealed the win with a powerful header in the 121st minute.
Manchester United will now face Athletic Bilbao in the semi-finals, with the first leg scheduled for May 1 and the return leg at Old Trafford on May 8.
