Chido Obi-Martin Earns First Start for Manchester United as Rúben Amorim Rotates Squad Against Brentford

Chido Obi-Martin made his first senior start for Manchester United in Sunday's Premier League clash against Brentford, as manager Rúben Amorim rotated his squad heavily ahead of the upcoming Europa League semi-final second leg. The 17-year-old striker, who joined United from Arsenal in October 2024, has been making waves in the youth setup and was rewarded with a place in the starting XI.

Obi-Martin’s selection reflects Amorim’s growing trust in youth, especially given the forward is ineligible for the Europa League due to UEFA's rule requiring players to be registered with the club for at least two years. Despite that, the young striker has caught the eye with standout performances, including a 15-minute hat-trick on his full Under-18 debut against Nottingham Forest.

He has already made several senior appearances off the bench this season, including cameos against Tottenham, Everton, and Fulham.

Manchester United Starting XI vs Brentford:

Goalkeeper: Altay Bayindir

Defenders: Tyler Fredricson, Matthijs de Ligt, Luke Shaw (captain)

Midfielders: Patrick Dorgu, Manuel Ugarte, Kobbie Mainoo, Harry Amass

Forwards: Alejandro Garnacho, Mason Mount

Striker: Chido Obi-Martin

Substitutes:
Tom Heaton, Victor Lindelöf, Harry Maguire, Leny Yoro, Casemiro, Christian Eriksen, Bruno Fernandes, Amad Diallo, Rasmus Højlund

Amorim made eight changes from the side that beat Athletic Club 3-0 in the first leg of the Europa League semi-final. Only Patrick Dorgu, Manuel Ugarte, and Alejandro Garnacho retained their starting places.
