Barcelona Clinch Comeback Victory Over Valladolid to Extend La Liga Lead

FC Barcelona kept their La Liga title hopes firmly on track with a hard-fought 2–1 comeback win against Real Valladolid on Saturday, May 3, 2025. The victory widened their lead at the top of the table to seven points ahead of second-placed Real Madrid, who still have a game in hand.

The match began unfavorably for Hansi Flick’s side, as Valladolid struck early through Iván Sánchez, who capitalized on a defensive lapse to score in the 6th minute. Despite dominating possession, Barcelona struggled to break down a compact Valladolid defense in the first half.

Manager Hansi Flick's tactical changes at halftime proved decisive. Raphinha, who was introduced after the break, drew Barcelona level in the 54th minute with a well-taken goal. Just six minutes later, youngster Fermín López found the net to complete the comeback, converting a low cross from Gerard Martín to give Barcelona the lead.

Barcelona's returning goalkeeper, Marc-André ter Stegen, made a significant impact in his first appearance since November. The German international delivered several crucial saves, notably denying Juanmi Latasa and surviving a late scare when Raúl Moro fired narrowly wide.

The win not only strengthens Barcelona’s position at the summit of La Liga but also serves as a morale boost ahead of a pivotal week, which includes the Champions League semi-final second leg against Inter Milan and a much-anticipated El Clásico clash against Real Madrid.
