Guardiola Confirms Rodri's Return to Training, Awaits Medical Clearance for Match Action

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has confirmed that midfielder Rodri has returned to training after recovering from a serious knee injury sustained in September 2024. However, Guardiola emphasized that Rodri's return to competitive matches will depend entirely on medical clearance.

Guardiola stated, “The moment the physio and doctor say that Rodri can start to play minutes, he will start to play minutes. But the doctors have to tell me.”

Rodri suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury during a 2-2 draw with Arsenal, leading to a lengthy rehabilitation period. Guardiola acknowledged that recovery from such injuries typically takes seven to eleven months. He stressed the importance of avoiding any setbacks during this phase, noting, “He feels really good, every day he's making sessions and sessions, but we have to make the step to avoid making a step backwards and being injured again.”

While Rodri’s return to training is a positive sign, Guardiola did not provide a specific timeframe for his return to action, reiterating that the decision rests with the medical staff.

In addition, striker Erling Haaland has also resumed training after recovering from an ankle injury sustained in March, though he is not expected to play in the upcoming match against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Manchester City currently sits fourth in the Premier League with 61 points from 34 matches as they push to secure a top-four finish. Their next fixture is against Wolves on Friday.
