Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique has opened up about the heartbreak that changed his life forever — the loss of his nine-year-old daughter, Xana, to a rare form of bone cancer in 2019.
Despite the devastating experience, the Spanish coach continues to find light in the darkness, holding onto the memories they created together.
"Can I consider myself lucky or unfortunate? I consider myself very lucky," Enrique shared in a recent interview. “My daughter lived with us for nine wonderful years. We have thousands of memories, videos, and unforgettable moments.”
This emotional reflection is part of Enrique’s new documentary, “No tenéis ni idea” (“You Have No Idea”), where he speaks candidly about grief, love, and the enduring presence of his daughter in his life. One especially touching moment comes when he recalls a conversation with his mother:“Mom, you need to put Xana’s photo up. Xana is still with us. Maybe not in body, but in spirit — absolutely. We talk about her every day, we laugh, we remember. I truly believe Xana still sees us.”
As PSG prepares for the Champions League final against Inter Milan on May 31, Enrique is carrying his daughter's memory with him — and he’s hoping for a special tribute. He recalled how in 2015, after winning the Champions League with Barcelona, Xana joined him on the pitch, proudly waving the club’s flag.
“I want to do the same with PSG,” he said, expressing his wish to recreate that moment of joy in her honor.
