Jorginho's move marks his first professional stint in Brazil, returning to his country of birth after a career spent entirely in Europe. Born in Imbituba, Santa Catarina, he moved to Italy at the age of 15 and later represented the Italian national team, earning accolades such as the UEFA Euro 2020 title and the UEFA Men's Player of the Year award in 2021 .
During his time at Arsenal, Jorginho made 78 appearances across all competitions since joining from Chelsea in January 2023. His playing time diminished in the 2024/25 season, leading to his decision to seek new opportunities .
At Flamengo, Jorginho will be managed by former Chelsea and Brazil full-back Filipe LuÃs, who has already secured the Brazilian Cup and Super Cup with the club. His addition is expected to bolster Flamengo's midfield as they aim for success in both domestic and international competitions .
Flamengo's Club World Cup campaign begins on June 16 against Tunisian side ES Tunis, with subsequent matches against Chelsea and León scheduled in the group stage .
