Liam Delap is poised to complete his transfer to Chelsea following the activation of his £30 million release clause. The 22-year-old striker has agreed personal terms with the club and is scheduled to undergo a medical examination shortly.
Delap’s move comes after Ipswich Town’s relegation, which triggered the release clause in his contract. Despite interest from other Premier League clubs such as Manchester United, Newcastle United, and Everton, Delap has chosen Chelsea, attracted by the prospect of playing in the UEFA Champions League, signing a long-term deal, and reuniting with manager Enzo Maresca, whom he previously worked with at Manchester City.
This season, Delap has impressed with 12 goals and two assists for Ipswich Town, establishing himself as one of England’s most promising young forwards. Chelsea views his signing as a key addition to strengthen their attacking options and provide competition for their current striker Nicolas Jackson.
The transfer agreement reportedly includes a potential loan move for Chelsea’s 19-year-old forward Marc Guiu to Ipswich Town, further cementing the partnership between the two clubs.
