Salah's exceptional performance during the 2024–25 season was instrumental in Liverpool securing their 20th English top-flight title. He amassed 33 goals and 23 assists across all competitions, including 28 goals and 18 assists in the Premier League alone. His contributions were pivotal in Liverpool's triumphant campaign under new manager Arne Slot.
The Egyptian international received an overwhelming 90% of votes from the 918 FWA members, the largest winning margin this century. Teammate Virgil van Dijk finished second in the polling, with Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak and Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice completing the top four.
FWA chair John Cross praised Salah's achievement, stating, "Rarely has there been a more popular winner than Mo. His overwhelming victory is just a reflection of an incredible season."
Salah's third FWA award places him alongside Thierry Henry as the only players to have won the honor three times. He previously received the award in 2018 and 2022.
The award ceremony also recognized Arsenal striker Alessia Russo, who was named the FWA Women's Footballer of the Year after a standout season, scoring 12 goals in 20 Women's Super League games and leading Arsenal to the Champions League final with seven goals in the competition.
Both Salah and Russo were honored at the FWA's annual dinner on May 22, celebrating their exceptional contributions to English football during the 2024–25 season.
