Arsenal’s long-awaited return to the UEFA Champions League semifinals ended in heartbreak tonight, as Mikel Arteta’s men fell 2-1 to a clinical Paris Saint-Germain side at the Parc des Princes—crashing out 3-1 on aggregate and seeing their European dreams dissolve under the Parisian lights.
The Gunners had arrived in the French capital with hope, trailing just 1-0 from the first leg. But any aspirations of a comeback were quickly silenced when Fabian Ruiz curled a sensational strike into the top corner, sending the home crowd into a frenzy and forcing Arsenal to chase the game.
Achraf Hakimi doubled PSG’s lead midway through the second half, breaking away on a blistering counter-attack to slide the ball past David Raya and leave Arsenal staring down the barrel.
Bukayo Saka offered a glimmer of hope with a late goal—his low drive beating Gianluigi Donnarumma—but it proved too little, too late. PSG, marshalled brilliantly by Luis Enrique, saw out the remaining minutes with confidence and composure.
For Arsenal, it was a night of bitter disappointment. After a spirited Champions League run, their quest to reach a first final since 2006 is over—once again stopped just short of the summit.
PSG, meanwhile, march on to the final in Munich, where they will face Inter Milan in what promises to be a heavyweight showdown.
