Inter Milan head coach Simone Inzaghi has been handed a one-match suspension due to his association with unauthorized fan groups, specifically the club's ultras faction known as "Curva Nord."
This disciplinary action is part of a broader investigation by the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) into the relationships between club officials and hardcore supporter groups, some of which have alleged ties to organized crime.
Inzaghi, along with midfielder Hakan ÇalhanoÄŸlu, accepted plea bargains that resulted in their suspensions and fines—€15,000 for Inzaghi and €30,000 for ÇalhanoÄŸlu. Both were found to have violated FIGC regulations that prohibit interactions with unofficial supporter groups. As a result, they will miss Inter's upcoming Serie A match against Hellas Verona.
The investigation, known as "Doppia Curva," has also led to financial penalties for both Inter and AC Milan, who were fined €70,000 and €30,000 respectively, due to their associations with their respective ultras groups. Additionally, Inter vice-president Javier Zanetti was fined €14,500.
These sanctions follow a probe initiated after the arrest of 19 members of ultra groups last September, many of whom were linked to the 'Ndrangheta mafia. The FIGC's actions aim to address and curb the influence of unauthorized and potentially criminal elements within Italian football's supporter culture.
