Kelleher ends a nine-year spell at Liverpool, having joined the club from Ringmahon Rangers in 2015. He made 67 appearances for the Reds and played a key role in their domestic and European successes, including two Premier League titles, the Champions League, FA Cup, and two EFL Cup wins. One of his standout moments came in the 2022 Carabao Cup final, where he scored the winning penalty in a shootout victory over Chelsea.
Eager to secure regular first-team football, Kelleher expressed his excitement about the opportunity at Brentford. His departure comes as part of Liverpool’s squad transition under new management, with the club recently signing Georgian goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia.
Brentford’s Director of Football, Phil Giles, praised Kelleher’s experience and readiness, noting that the club had been monitoring him for some time and sees him as a natural fit for their setup.
On the international stage, Kelleher has earned 22 caps for the Republic of Ireland. National team assistant manager John O'Shea assured that the move to Brentford would not affect his standing with the squad, reinforcing the goalkeeper’s continued importance to Ireland’s plans.
The addition of Kelleher is seen as a major boost for Brentford as they prepare for the upcoming Premier League campaign.
