Flekken, 31, returns to the Bundesliga after two seasons in England, where he made 74 Premier League appearances for Brentford. During his time in Germany, he previously played for SC Freiburg, MSV Duisburg, and Greuther Fürth. His move to Leverkusen marks a significant addition to the squad under newly appointed head coach Erik ten Hag, who succeeded Xabi Alonso in May.
Leverkusen's Sporting Director, Simon Rolfes, expressed enthusiasm about the acquisition, stating that Flekken's comprehensive skill set and physical presence make him one of the top goalkeepers in recent years.
Internationally, Flekken has been capped eight times by the Netherlands national team. He made his debut in March 2022 and was part of the squad for UEFA Euro 2024.
Flekken's arrival at Leverkusen is expected to bolster the team's defensive options as they prepare for the upcoming season. His experience and leadership are anticipated to play a crucial role in the club's domestic and European campaigns.
