Update: Canada returnee bags three months jail term for assaulting Lagos govt officialA 52-year-old Canadian returnee, Morufudeen Idowu, has been sentenced to three months in prison for crossing the Ojota Expressway, resisting arrest, and assaulting a Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI) officer in the process.

The incident occurred on Friday at the Ojota corridor, where Idowu allegedly physically attacked a KAI official who stopped him from violating pedestrian safety laws.

According to the Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, Idowu refused to comply with lawful directives and assaulted the officer. The commissioner confirmed Idowu's arrest and subsequent arraignment before a Magistrate Court in Oshodi, where he was found guilty and sentenced to three months imprisonment.

The Lagos State Government has reiterated its commitment to protecting its officials and enforcing the law, regardless of an individual's social status. Commissioner Wahab emphasized that the government will not tolerate any form of aggression against its personnel performing lawful duties.
