Chelsea Confirm Liam Delap Signing: Striker to Wear Number 9 Jersey

Chelsea have officially confirmed that their latest signing, Liam Delap, will don the number 9 jersey at Stamford Bridge. The 22-year-old striker joins the club on a six-year contract following his £30 million transfer from Ipswich Town. 

Chelsea secured Delap’s signing by activating his release clause after Ipswich's relegation. The young forward had a standout season, scoring 12 Premier League goals, making him a highly sought-after prospect. Manchester United, Newcastle, Everton, and Nottingham Forest all expressed interest, but Chelsea’s Champions League qualification and the opportunity to reunite with Cole Palmer ultimately convinced him. 

Head coach Enzo Maresca played a pivotal role, personally engaging in discussions with Delap about Chelsea’s evolving playing style and long-term ambitions. Expressing his excitement about joining the club, Delap stated, *"Growing up watching this club, I understand the stature of it and how incredible it has been over the years. I wanted to come here to win trophies."*

Delap will join Chelsea’s squad for the Club World Cup in the United States later this month, rather than competing in the European Under-21 Championship with England. His arrival strengthens Chelsea’s attacking options, alongside Nicolas Jackson, Marc Guiu, Christopher Nkunku, and Armando Broja.
