Florian Wirtz successfully completes Liverpool medical
German international Florian Wirtz has officially undergone and successfully passed his medical examination ahead of a groundbreaking move to Liverpool FC.
The 22-year-old attacking midfielder, currently starring for Bayer Leverkusen and the German national team, arrived in England on Thursday for the initial stage of his medical. He completed this first phase yesterday and returned today to Liverpool’s AXA Training Centre, alongside his parents, to conclude the evaluation and participate in media duties.

Set to sign a long-term contract extending through June 2030, Wirtz is poised to become Liverpool’s most expensive acquisition to date. The transfer package reportedly includes a base fee of £100 million, with potential add-ons pushing the total value to around £116 million, thereby establishing a new British transfer record.

Liverpool have held firm against interest from major European clubs—including Bayern Munich and Manchester City—leveraging detailed tactical discussions under manager Arne Slot, which convinced Wirtz to make the move.

Once finalized, this will mark Liverpool’s third significant summer signing, following defender Jeremie Frimpong (£29.5 million) and goalkeeper Armin Peczarski (£1.5 million). Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez’s £40 million transfer is also advancing.

Liverpool expect to confirm the deal and present Wirtz officially today, completing what promises to be one of the most high-profile transfers of the summer.
