Leroy Sané has officially completed his transfer to Turkish champions Galatasaray following an electrifying arrival in Istanbul. The 29-year-old winger landed overnight and was welcomed like a rock star by hundreds of enthusiastic fans, as the club streamed the moment live on YouTube .
Sané attributed his decision to the “complete package” offered by Galatasaray — citing the club’s passion, the fervor of its supporters, and a significantly enhanced financial proposal . Although FC Bayern Munich had proposed a contract extension offering around €12 million gross per season, Galatasaray’s deal reportedly pays up to €15 million net annually .
He signed a three-year contract and will thus not participate in Bayern’s upcoming Club World Cup campaign in the USA . Having joined Bayern from Manchester City in 2020, Sané departs after five seasons—with 61 goals and 55 assists in 220 appearances, along with four Bundesliga titles and the 2020 Club World Cup .
Sané recalls fondly a past Champions League match at Galatasaray’s stadium: “The atmosphere was incredible. I loved playing there—and now I’ll have that energy cheering for me,” he said upon arrival .
