Luka Modrić to undergo medical and finalise transfer to AC Milan following Club World Cup
Veteran Croatian midfielder Luka Modrić, aged 39, is set to complete the medical examination and formalities for his move to AC Milan after participating in the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup with Real Madrid.
Modrić, whose contract with Real Madrid expires this summer, has reportedly reached an agreement to join Milan on a one-year deal, with an option to extend for a second season. Out of respect for his current club, he has chosen to defer all transfer-related discussions—including the medical—until after the conclusion of the tournament.
The Croatian engine room maestro will conclude his illustrious career at Real through the Club World Cup—where he will compete against Al‑Hilal, Pachuca, and RB Salzburg, with the final slated for 13 July—before flying to Zagreb or Milan to complete the formal move. Italian reports indicate that Milan has arranged medical tests in Zagreb, paving the way for his official introduction to the club and signalling the end of a 13‑year chapter at Real Madrid.
Despite lucrative offers from clubs in Saudi Arabia and Major League Soccer, Modrić has opted to remain in Europe—driven by his ambition to play in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where he aims to represent Croatia at the age of 40.
