Liverpool have reportedly reached a verbal agreement with Bayer Leverkusen for the transfer of Germany midfielder Florian Wirtz, in a groundbreaking deal that could total €150 million, including add-ons. The agreement in principle marks what is set to be one of the most notable transfers in Premier League history.
Negotiations between Liverpool and Leverkusen concluded successfully after weeks of discussions. Liverpool are believed to have increased their offer to meet Leverkusen’s valuation, ultimately agreeing to a package worth €150 million with performance-related bonuses included.
Wirtz’s representatives had already agreed personal terms with the Merseyside club approximately two weeks ago, which allowed the transfer to progress swiftly. The final steps now involve the 21-year-old undergoing a medical in Liverpool and signing his contract—formalities expected to take place imminently.
If finalised, the deal would represent Liverpool’s most expensive signing to date, surpassing the £75 million they paid for Virgil van Dijk in 2018. It would also eclipse Chelsea’s £115 million signing of Moisés Caicedo to become the Premier League’s record transfer and stand among the most significant sales in Bundesliga history.
Wirtz, widely regarded as one of Europe’s brightest young talents, is expected to play a central role in Arne Slot’s plans for Liverpool’s midfield. His creative vision and technical quality are seen as key assets for the club as they prepare for the upcoming season.
Official confirmation from both clubs is expected once the medical and contract signing are completed.
