Olympique de Marseille Sign Angel Gomes on Three-Year Deal

Olympique de Marseille has officially secured the signature of England international midfielder Angel Gomes on a free transfer, agreeing to a three-year contract until June 2028 .
The 24-year-old, who comes with senior England caps, opted to join Marseille after deciding against renewing his contract with Ligue 1 rivals Lille . Despite interest from Premier League clubs including Tottenham and West Ham, Gomes was persuaded to continue his career in France, drawn by the progress under manager Roberto De Zerbi—who recently led Marseille to a runner-up finish .

Gomes, a product of Manchester United’s renowned academy, made ten first-team appearances at Old Trafford before moving to Lille in 2020. He went on loan to Boavista in the 2020–21 season, then returned to star for Lille, making over 130 appearances and helping the squad win the Trophée des Champions in 2021 .

His time at Lille was marked by consistent performances, although a calf injury in January 2025 limited his participation late in the season . Upon the announcement of his departure, Gomes expressed deep gratitude to the club, players, and supporters for their support and the memories forged during his four-year spell .

At Marseille, Gomes is poised to reunite with former Manchester United teammate Mason Greenwood, joining a team that will compete in the UEFA Champions League next season .
