He made his senior bow on 13 June 2015, playing the full 90 minutes in a 2–0 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Chad in Kaduna. Over the past decade, he has earned 79 caps, captained the national team, and featured in five major international tournaments, including the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
In a heartfelt social media post, he expressed gratitude to the late Stephen Keshi, who entrusted him with his first cap:
“10 YEARS REPRESENTING 13.06.2015 – 06.06.2025
I will never forget the ‘Big Boss’ Stephen Keshi for believing in me to make my debut in Kaduna that day a decade ago.
79 caps, 5 major tournaments, 3 medals later. It is my biggest pride to be the captain of this nation & team.”
Troost‑Ekong’s achievements with the Super Eagles include three Africa Cup of Nations medals—bronze in 2019 and 2021, and silver in 2023. He also won a bronze medal at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro with Nigeria’s U‑23 squad. At the 2023 AFCON, he was named Player of the Tournament, becoming the first defender in over two decades to receive the accolade, and is now the highest-scoring defender in AFCON history with five goals.
At club level, Troost‑Ekong currently plays for Saudi Pro League side Al‑Kholood and brings extensive top‑flight experience from leagues across Europe.
Looking ahead, he remains committed to steering the Super Eagles to further success, including qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
