The transfer is reportedly worth €17 million, with an additional €2 million in performance-related add-ons. Estupiñán becomes the first Ecuadorian to play for the Rossoneri and has been handed the number 2 shirt.
Pervis Estupiñán was born on 21 January 1998 in Esmeraldas, Ecuador. He began his career at LDU Quito before moving to Europe. He had loan spells with several Spanish clubs including Granada, Almería, Mallorca, and Osasuna before a permanent transfer to Villarreal, where he won the UEFA Europa League. In August 2022, he joined Brighton, making over 100 appearances for the club and scoring five goals. He also recorded one assist during the 2024–25 Premier League season.
The move comes as a direct replacement for Theo Hernández, who left Milan earlier in the summer. Estupiñán joins a growing list of summer recruits, including Luka Modric and Samuele Ricci, under returning manager Massimiliano Allegri.
Estupiñán had attracted interest from Manchester United earlier in the window, but with the club already having Luke Shaw, Tyrell Malacia, and Patrick Dorgu, they decided not to pursue a move. That allowed Milan to complete the deal. Brighton, meanwhile, had already secured a replacement in Belgian left-back Maxim De Cuyper. Brighton manager Fabian Hürzeler thanked Estupiñán for his service and wished him well at his new club.
In his first comments as a Milan player, Estupiñán described the transfer as a childhood dream come true. He expressed his excitement about playing alongside Rafael Leão and said he was proud to be the first Ecuadorian to represent the club.
