The announcement was made by Hon. Kolade Alabi David, outgoing Chairman of Bariga LCDA, during the commissioning of several community infrastructure projects. He stated that the renaming formed part of the council’s broader initiative to honour individuals whose talents and contributions have elevated both the locality and the nation.
In addition to the bus stop, several streets were renamed to honour notable figures from entertainment, politics, and sports, including:
Ilaje Road renamed King Sunny Ade Road (legendary Juju musician)
Bariga Road renamed Bola Ahmed Tinubu Way (Nigeria’s current President and former Lagos Governor)
Community Road (Akoka) renamed Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu Road (Governor of Lagos State)
Ajidagan Street renamed Olamide Adedeji (Baddo) Street (Olamide)
Ifeanyi Street renamed Abolore Akande (9ice) Street (singer-songwriter 9ice)
Ayodele Street, Ladi-Lak renamed Tony Tetuila Street (veteran Afro-pop singer)
Ilojo Crescent, Obanikoro renamed Bukayo Saka Street (England and Arsenal star of Nigerian descent)
Alabi emphasized:
“As an administration, we took our time to reflect on a number of our people who have put the name of our Local Council out on the global map through their respective God-given talents and craft… Today, we will be officially renaming streets in honour of the legacies.”
The renaming has already sparked public conversation, particularly on social media. Veteran entertainer Charly Boy — whose name the bus stop formerly bore — responded with a succinct reaction: “Na dem sabi” (meaning “They know best”).
