Eddie Howe has stated that there are currently no contract discussions underway with striker Alexander Isak, explaining that any talks “will take place at a later date, potentially.”

Speaking ahead of a pre-season friendly during Newcastle United’s Asia tour, Howe acknowledged that there are developments happening in the background, adding that any decision must be in the best interest of the club. He said conversations between the player, himself, and the club would remain private.

Howe expressed his desire to keep the Swedish striker at the club, saying, “I certainly hope he stays. But it is football, and who knows what the future may bring.”

Isak has been a key figure for Newcastle since joining the club in 2022. Although there is ongoing speculation about his future, including reported interest from Liverpool and Saudi Arabian side Al Hilal, the player has not formally asked to leave or entered new contract talks. He remains under contract until 2028, giving the club a strong position in any future negotiations.

Isak missed the current pre-season tour due to a minor thigh injury and is undergoing assessment in Newcastle, with the club hopeful of his return to training soon.

Howe also highlighted the challenges of the transfer market, citing inflated prices and limited options. Newcastle has signed Anthony Elanga for £55 million but continues to face difficulties in meeting asking prices for other targets, including Hugo Ekitike and Benjamin Sesko.
