Chelsea’s Cole Palmer recently visited Saint Kitts and Nevis, the birthplace of his grandfather, following his impressive performance at the Club World Cup. The 22-year-old midfielder was instrumental in Chelsea’s triumph, scoring twice and providing an assist in the final against Paris Saint-Germain—a performance that earned him the Player of the Tournament award.
Marking his first-ever trip to the Caribbean island, Palmer was warmly received at the airport with traditional Masquerade dancers and welcomed by senior government officials, including Deputy Prime Minister Dr. Geoffrey Hanley and Tourism Minister Marsha T. Henderson.

Sharing a photo from the trip on social media, Palmer captioned it simply: “Motherland 🇰🇳”—a nod to his deep connection with his ancestral roots. The Chelsea star also pays tribute to this heritage on the pitch, proudly displaying the Saint Kitts and Nevis flag alongside England’s on his football boots.

Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew praised Palmer’s visit, saying it served as “a powerful reminder of the strength and pride of our diaspora” and expressed hope that his presence would inspire young people on the island.

Speaking about the experience, Palmer said: “Landing in St. Kitts off the back of winning the Club World Cup felt really special. It’s where my grandad’s love for football started. The island’s beautiful and really chilled. I can’t wait to explore the mountains, rainforest and sea – and to try out the food!”

Palmer’s visit came just before the start of a busy Premier League campaign with Chelsea, which opens with a series of high-profile London derbies. His trip not only celebrates a personal family connection but also shines a light on the island's proud diaspora and its influence on global sporting talent.
