Manchester City has officially confirmed that midfielder Mateo Kovacic underwent surgery to address an Achilles tendon injury, ruling him out of the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup. 
The surgery follows ongoing discomfort and swelling around the heel tendon, which initially led to the mistaken decision to rest. When recovery failed to progress, the club approved surgical intervention. Croatia manager Zlatko Dalić later confirmed that Kovacic’s rehabilitation timeline is expected to span approximately three months.
Last season, the 31‑year‑old made 42 appearances and scored seven goals across all competitions for City. The club has stated that Kovacic will spend the summer recovering and that everyone at Manchester City sends him their best wishes for a swift return.
