Croatian captain and 2018 Ballon d’Or winner Luka Modrić has officially joined AC Milan on a one-year contract, with an additional option to extend the deal through June 2027 . At 39, Modrić arrives following a storied 13-year spell at Real Madrid, where he amassed 597 appearances and 28 major titles, including six UEFA Champions League and four La Liga championships .

He will wear the iconic number 14 jersey in Milan—a tribute to Dutch legend Johan Cruyff, a number he previously donned at Tottenham Hotspur . In one of his first statements, Modrić expressed delight in joining Milan and looked forward to starting a new chapter in his career .

Newly appointed manager Massimiliano Allegri confirmed the signing and highlighted Modrić’s experience as a key asset in the club’s midfield revamp. His arrival joins a group that includes Youssouf Fofana, Yunus Musah, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, and recent addition Samuele Ricci .

Modrić brings tremendous international pedigree as Croatia’s most-capped player, with 188 appearances and 28 goals, and led his national team to the 2018 World Cup final .
