Messi Delivers Late Drama as Inter Miami Edges Atlas FC 2–1 in Leagues Cup Opener

Inter Miami secured a dramatic 2–1 victory over Atlas FC in their Leagues Cup opener at Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Marcelo Weigandt’s sixth-minute stoppage-time winner, set up by Lionel Messi, sealed all three points for the Herons after Telasco Segovia’s opener and a late equaliser from José Rivaldo Lozano.

Telasco Segovia opened the scoring in the 57th minute with a pinpoint header from Messi’s cross. José Rivaldo Lozano brought Atlas FC level in the 79th minute with a composed finish inside the box. But in the final seconds of stoppage time, Messi once again played provider, assisting Marcelo Weigandt's decisive goal in the 90+6th minute.  

Messi played a key role with two assists that shaped the outcome. Marcelo Weigandt displayed impressive composure under pressure to score the winner. Telasco Segovia contributed with a well-timed header and an effective link-up in attack.  

With this win, Inter Miami now lead Group C after Matchday 1. Their next game is against Orlando City on Saturday, August 2. Atlas FC face Atlanta United on the same date as they seek redemption in their campaign.
