38-year-old striker Olivier Giroud has officially joined LOSC Lille, marking a return to Ligue 1 after 13 years. The French forward, who is France’s all-time top scorer with 57 goals in 137 international appearances, leaves Major League Soccer side Los Angeles FC by mutual agreement. His stint in the MLS saw him score five goals in 37 matches, including a crucial goal in the U.S. Open Cup final that helped LAFC secure their first-ever trophy.

Giroud has signed a one-year deal with Lille, with an option to extend for another season. His arrival comes as Lille prepares for the departure of Jonathan David and aims to strengthen the squad for both domestic competitions and the UEFA Europa League.

Giroud, who began his top-flight career with Montpellier—helping them to a Ligue 1 title in 2012—has also played for Arsenal, Chelsea, and AC Milan, winning several major honours including the FA Cup, UEFA Europa League, UEFA Champions League, and Serie A. Reflecting on his return to France, he said, “I’m very happy and excited to be back in France, home. Lille ticked a lot of boxes for me and my family… It’s a young and talented squad that needs experienced players like me.”

At 38, Giroud brings a wealth of experience, leadership, and a strong track record of success to a Lille side aiming to compete on multiple fronts in the upcoming season.
