Nigerian singer Omawumi Megbele has dismissed the viral claim made by fellow artiste Timaya, alleging that Burna Boy once ordered her and Waje out of a studio session for doubting his dreams.

In a resurfaced interview clip from December 2024, Timaya had recalled a moment in a studio in Lekki where a young Burna Boy allegedly said he would soon be flying on private jets, a statement Timaya claimed Omawumi and Waje laughed at. According to him, Burna became upset and kicked them out of the session.

However, Omawumi, during an interview with Naija FM, firmly refuted the story, saying such an incident never happened. She expressed disappointment at her name being associated with a narrative she described as false and hurtful.
“That thing no happen. I was not there. I wasn’t there when it happened,” she said.
“The only time I remember being in the studio with Burna Boy, Timaya and Waje was in 2010. Waje invited me to record background vocals for her. After I finished my part, I left. I don’t know what happened after I left.”

She continued:“Why would you use my name to chase clout? Why will you use my name to lie? If you want to promote your song or talk your story, why involve me in a lie?
You don’t need to use my name to pepper Burna. He’s your guy, sort it out.”

Omawumi went on to stress the respectful relationship she shares with Burna Boy, saying:“Burna and I have mutual respect for each other. Anytime we see, we hug and show love. So why are you bringing a false story that involves me? That’s very hurtful. I have a reputation.”

She also questioned why negativity often spreads more than the truth:
“I’ve been in this industry for 20 years, and my name has never been associated with nonsense. It hurts that this lie is what people are running with instead of the truth.”

Omawumi ended her remarks by urging the public to be cautious about sensational stories, especially when they involve respected individuals:
“People are more interested in bad news. If I post something good, you people won’t carry it. But when one person lies against me, everyone wants to talk about it.”
